Infosys Ltd (NSE: INFY): Good growth was recorded in the stock market on Friday, but the IT index had no role in this growth and it declined by 2.33 percent. Infosys shares fell 2.78 percent and closed at Rs 1,511.45.

A block sale was reported at Infosys on the last day of Friday when there were 49 lakh shares said to be sold and bought. The names of buyers and sellers will be announced on the exchanges later.

Shares of Infosys Ltd had a big gap down opening on Friday as the stock was hit the most after the guidance cut by Accenture. For this reason, there was selling pressure in most of the IT stocks. Infosys shares dropped 3.6 percent on Friday, bringing them to a low of 1,498.20.

Infosys also suffered the most loss among Nifty shares, due to which the market was most affected.

Infosys has been the laggard in the IT sector and has given returns of about 9% in a year, while the Nifty IT index has given returns of more than 25% during this period.

The performance of the stock is more sluggish compared to the Nifty’s increase of 28% during the same time frame.

The Nifty IT index fell by 1,325 points or 3.6 percent during intraday trading and all 10 stocks were trading in the negative. However, the Nifty IT index closed down by 2.33 percent.

The IT index and the market felt the impact of Accenture’s guidance. Accenture’s results and outlook have confirmed the fear of weak demand in the short term in the market.

Accenture has highlighted more cuts in short-cycle projects. This is bad news for companies such as Wipro, LTIMindtree, Mphasis, and Infosys in which estimates incorporate some adjustment in discretionary spending.

Expert analysts are also of the opinion that the demand for discretionary services in India IT is not likely to grow significantly during the first quarter of FY2025.

They said revenue growth for large caps should be better in FY25F (+6.0% YoY) vs FY24F (+1.5% YoY). We expect this cost to be driven by take-out deals.

However, Nuwama said Accenture’s outsourcing segment is still expected to grow by mid-single digits during H2FY25 which bodes well for Indian IT companies.

Broking firm has given a buy rating on Tech Mahindra Coforge, Birlasoft, and Clarks and a downgraded rating on TCS, Wipro, LTIMindtree, LTTS, and Mphasis.
